Preamble: - Do you think people living below poverty in India have knowledge of social security scheme? You can never thought even imagine; only few of them are know about social security scheme which is related to them. If you agree with above sentence, please share below information amongst those who are living in below poverty. So that they will able to understand benefits related to them. I am here writing about one social security scheme run by Life Insurance Corporation of India with the support of Government of India which is for poor people. Aam Admi Bima Yojna is really for Am aadmi. It is Group Social Security Scheme.

Who can join this scheme: - 1. The member should be aged between 18 years to 59 years can join this scheme and 2. The member should normally be the head of the family or one earning member of the below poverty line family (BPL) or marginally above the poverty line under identified vocational group/rural landless household.

How to join the Scheme: - Eligible person can take this scheme only through Nodal Agency. Nodal Agency can be central ministerial department, state government and registered NGO. In the case of Rural Landless Households the nodal Agency for them is State Government/Union Territory appointed to administer the scheme.

What is requirement: - If you are eligible for this scheme, you need to submit age proof documents i.e. Ration Card or Copy of Birth Registered or Copy of School Certificate or Copy of Voter ID card or Copy of Identity card issued by reputed employer/Government Department or Copy of Adhar Card. You must have any one of the above to participate in the scheme.

Premium: - It is a social security scheme and run with the support of central government and state government and implemented trough nodal agency by LIC. Premium under the scheme per member is ` 200/- annually. Its cover ` 30000/-. 50% of premium subsidised from the government from their Social Security fund and 50% premium shall be borne by the Nodal Agency and/or Member and/or State Government/ Union Territory. In the case of Rural Landless household remaining 50% premium borne by state government that mean no premium charge from rural landless household and other occupational group.

Advantages under the Scheme: - I- on natural Death -unfortunate death of the member, during the period of insurance cover the Sum Assured of ` 30,000/- under assurance, then in force, shall become payable to the nominee/legal heirs. II- On Accidental Death/Disability - ` 75000 to be paid, on accidental death, on Permanent Total Disability, due to accident (Loss of 2 eyes or 2 limbs OR Loss of one eye & one limb, in an accident) ` 75000 to be paid, and Loss of one eye or one limb, in an accident ` 37,500/- to be paid. III- Scholarship - Scholarship as a Free Add-on benefit will be provided to a maximum of  two children of the beneficiary studying between 9th to 12th Standard @ Rs.100/= per month for each child payable half yearly – on 1st July and on 1st January, each year.
