Exuding confidence in BJP’s victory in the ongoing MLC polls, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday asserted that after almost four decades, for the first time in the state the ruling party will attain a thumping majority in the Legislative Council.
“As the BJP candidates have been elected unopposed on 9 seats in the MLC elections being held for 36 seats, the BJP is assured to win the remaining 27 seats too,”said Yogi after casting his vote for the Gorakhpur-Maharajganj seat.
With a thumping majority in the Legislative Council as well as the Assembly, the government will be able to do even better work in the interest of public welfare, women's safety and self-reliance, employment of youth, and farmers, he added.
Crediting PM Modi for the grand victory of BJP in the assembly elections, CM Yogi further said, “We were able to form our government with two-thirds majority under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections. This will be probably the first time that the ruling party will have a majority in the State Legislative Council.”
He appealed to the voters to vote in favour BJP candidates in order to take forward the public welfare programs.CM Yogi also said that in 2017, the government had to face difficulties due to numbers in the Upper House. The Samajwadi Party used to create hurdles in development works and public welfare programs.
“This time, we will get a thumping majority in the Legislative Council and the work of public welfare programs and development will move forward at a fast pace,” he stated.
Responding to a question, the Chief Minister said that the policy of zero tolerance against the mafia will continue in the state, but the houses of the poor will not be destroyed. “Anti-land-mafia task force is taking back encroached land from mafias, we won't raze shanties of poor on encroached land until we rehabilitate them. In this regard, instructions have been issued to the officials.”
The CM went on saying that assets worth Rs 2500 crore have been seized from professional mafia. If the land does not belong to the reserved category, then the poor should be given a lease there. If he belongs to the reserved category, he should be provided accommodation elsewhere.
He also informed that instructions have been given for systematic rehabilitation of street vendors and giving them benefit of SVANidhi scheme.
Regarding the hacking of the Twitter handle of the CM office account, the CM said that the investigation is under process for the same.
Along with CM, former Union Minister Shiv Pratap Shukla, local MP Ravi Kishen Shukla, Mayor Sitaram Jaiswal, Gorakhpur Rural MLA Bipin Singh also casted their votes. The CM extended his wishes to people on the occasion of Maha Ashtami and Ram Navami.
