Lucknow, Aug 21, 2022:

Determined to make the rivers in the state ‘clean and

serene’, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is

working on a war footing and has succeeded in rejuvenating

about 60 rivers in the state to their purest forms.

In addition, under Namami Gange, in pursuance of the

directives issued by the Chief Minister along with rivers in

religious places, the state has intensified the work to prevent

water pollution in rivers flowing in 30 cities. As many as 27 out

of the 47 sewer treatment projects started in the state have

been completed so far, which has also led to the state’s

increased sewer treatment capacity by 473.91 million litres

daily (MLD).

Besides, work on about 18 sewerage treatment projects is

in the final stages, some of which are going to be completed

next month. This mainly includes Prayagraj, where 18 drains

are ready to be tapped.

The sewage treatment projects being prepared under the

Namami Gange will treat the sewage disposed from the drains

into the rivers. This move will not only aid in making the rivers

clean but also help protect the aquatic life.

After the completion of 47 projects at an amount of about

Rs 11071.63 crores, a total treatment capacity of 1508.01 MLD

will be achieved in the state. In these plans being prepared on

the PPP model, the agencies have been given the

responsibility of operation and maintenance for 15 years.

Sewer treatment projects will rejuvenate the rivers in these

cities

Sewerage projects are being carried out in Prayagraj

(Naini, Phaphamau, Jhusi), Kannauj, Narora, Garhmukteshwar,

Anupshahr, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Bithoor, Mathura-Vrindavan,
