Lucknow, March 7:
The Uttar Pradesh government is taking historic steps to prioritize women’s empowerment and girls’ education. On the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8), a grand "Mission Shakti" event will be organized in all 75 districts of the state. This initiative aims to promote women’s safety, self-reliance, and education, empowering girls at the grassroots level by enhancing their self-defense skills, life skills, and leadership abilities.
Across 1.32 lakh schools, various programs are being implemented to encourage girls' education. Additionally, in educationally backward blocks, 746 Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls' Schools play a crucial role in supporting out-of-school girls. These institutions provide free education to 82,629 girls, and over 680 schools have been upgraded to include Class 12.
The Uttar Pradesh government’s efforts are not only ensuring education and safety for girls but also empowering them for a brighter and self-reliant future. These initiatives are creating a new era of women’s empowerment in the state.
The impact of these government initiatives is becoming evident, as girls from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas are achieving national and international success. Nidhi from Amroha secured the 39th rank in the UPPSC examination and became an SDM, while Nida Khatoon from Mahoba cleared the NEET exam and obtained an MBBS degree. Sandhya Saroj from Prayagraj and Riya Patel from Pratapgarh got the opportunity to participate in scientific programs in Japan.
Women’s empowerment is not limited to education; girls from Uttar Pradesh are also excelling in sports at national and international levels. Archana Devi from Unnao was part of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup-winning team, while the Under-14 state-level girls’ football team secured the runner-up position, earning national-level selection. The Yogi government is promoting girls in sports through special coaching, scholarships, and training centers, enabling them to showcase their skills globally.
To enhance women’s safety, the government has provided self-defense training to 11 lakh girls. Additionally, 1.36 lakh girls have been trained as 'Power Angels', who play a vital role in ensuring women's safety in their communities. Under economic empowerment initiatives, 50,000 girls have received training in banking and financial literacy, paving the way for their self-reliance. Furthermore, various self-help group (SHG) schemes are being implemented to promote women’s entrepreneurship.
To enhance life skills among adolescents, "Meena Manch" platforms have been introduced, helping them develop leadership skills and become responsible citizens.
On International Women’s Day 2025, Mission Shakti will organize awareness programs across the state. These events will focus on women’s rights, self-defense, health, education, and career development.
Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh stated,
"Women’s empowerment is not just a scheme; it is the government’s commitment. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is making every possible effort to educate, protect, and empower girls."
He further added, "The government is planning to expand Kasturba Gandhi Schools, promote digital education, and introduce special scholarship programs for female athletes."
