FIA-Chicago Hosts Powerful Meet & Greet to Unite and Honor the Community

Chicago, May 26, 2025 – The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago, a cornerstone of the Indo-American community since the 1980s, hosted Tribute to Pahelgam Victims and praised Bharatiya Armed Forces and its 2025–26 Executive Board Oath-Taking and a special Memorial Day Meet & Greet, drawing over 150 leaders from Bharatiya organizations, businesses, and the wider community.

A Night of Reflection and Renewal

Despite the holiday weekend, the strong turnout reflected deep commitment and unity. Guests were welcomed with flowers, organizations honored with certificates, and sponsors, advertisers, and donors recognized for their vital support. Member associations, past presidents, executives, trustees, directors, delegates, and media representatives were all acknowledged for their contributions. The program began with light refreshments and concluded with a delicious dinner.

FIA’s Enduring Legacy

President Hemant Patel opened the event with a heartfelt speech, reaffirming FIA’s mission to unite Indian-Americans while promoting cultural values and civic engagement. An inspiring video highlighted decades of FIA achievements in cultural preservation, community service, and advocacy. Patel emphasized that the gathering celebrated both unity and the community’s lasting contributions.

Operation Sindoor: A Tribute to PahalgamVictims & Bharatiya Armed Forces

The evening began with the U.S. and Bharatiya national anthems, symbolizing mutual respect, followed by a moment of silence honoring the 26 victims of the brutal Pahelgam attack, where civilians were gunned down after their religion was identified by asking their names. Only men were executed in front of their wives and young children. A special video montage showcased scenes from Pahalgam, Kargil, Pathankot, Uri, Mumbai, and other terror attack sites, honoring the martyrs. It also highlighted the Indian Air Force’s swift 23-minute air strike that neutralized over 150 Pakistani terrorists and damaged airbases, symbolizing Bharat’s strength. This is how a tribute should be offered —with honor and pride —in the language terrorists and Pakistanis understand,” said Mr. Patel, emphasizing that Pakistan remains the epicenter of terrorism and the world must confront extremism’s roots which is beyond Pakistan.

Tribute to Veterans

In honor of Memorial Day, FIA paid heartfelt solemn tribute to soldiers and veterans, particularly recognizing Indian-origin veterans Arvind Akhleshwaria and Sanjay Sharma

Oath Ceremony and Leadership Vision
FIA Trustee-Director Dr. Bharat Barai, a highly regarded physician and community leader, administered the oath to the incoming Executive Board members before an audience of approximately 150 guests. His words emphasized the need for commitment, integrity, and proactive engagement in addressing the evolving needs of the Indian-American community.

Strong Political & Social Messaging

Dr. Barai and Mr. Patel called for a boycott of countries such as Turkey and all entities, communities, businesses, and products that support terrorism, urging Indian Americans to remain vocal and active. “Terrorism and atrocities must never be forgotten or forgiven,” said Mr. Patel, warning that silence allows history to repeat itself. He further urged, “Boycott businesses that support terrorism; do not pay for your own destruction.

Mokshadham Project Update

Dr. Rashmi Patel and Dr. Bharat Barai delivered an update on the much-anticipated Mokshadham Project, a proposed culturally respectful crematory that will allow Indian families to perform last rites in accordance with their traditions. The initiative reflects FIA’s dedication to supporting families during their most sensitive moments, ensuring dignity and religious freedom.

FIA's Voice in Action

President Hemant Patel showcased solidarity letters sent to the Government of India, urging other organizations to do the same. He also shared images of FIA’s participation in recent protests against Pakistan’s terrorist attacks as a model for united activism. Emphasizing the sacrifices of millions of freedom fighters, he called for patriotic festivals to be celebrated with true national pride—not with vulgar Bollywood dances.

A special note of appreciation was extended to Mitul Patel; an owner of the venu and Audio-Visual Team, led by Jay Patel, Head of the Audio-Visual Team from Bavis Gam Patidar Samaj.
