Lucknow : 12 March, 2021

Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji on Friday flagged off the 'Padayatra' (Independence March) from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. On this occasion, he inaugurated the Curtain Raiser activities of the 'Independence of Amrit Mahotsav' India at Seventy Five. He said that in the year 2022, 75 years of independence of the country will be completed.

He paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and said that today 91 years of Mahatma Gandhi's Salt Satyagraha are being completed. The Prime Minister also launched various cultural and digital initiatives for 'India at Seventy Five' celebrations. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Ji attended the programme organized on the occasion at Kakori Martyrs' Memorial in Lucknow.

In his address, the Prime Minister said that India's achievements today are not just our achievements, but they are going to illuminate the whole world. To awaken the hope of the whole of humanity, our development journey filled with the self-sufficiency of India is going to give impetus to the development journey of the whole world, he said while adding that work is being done to make India the dream of freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Nehru, Sardar Patel, etc.

He said that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had hoisted the tri-color by forming the first independent government of the country in Andaman, the country has given a grand shape to that forgotten history. He said that work has been done memorial of Jallianwala Bagh as well as the memorial in memory of the Paika movement. The places associated with Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, which had been forgotten for decades, have also been developed as Panch Teertha in the country.

The Prime Minister said that to save the pride of the history of the country, careful efforts have been made in the last six years. Velu Nachiyar of Tamil Nadu was the first Maharani who fought against British rule and in a similar manner, the tribal society of our country, with its bravery and valor, constantly forced the foreign rule to kneel.

In Jharkhand, when Lord Birsa Munda challenged the British, the Murmu brothers led the Santhal movement. In Odisha, Chakra Bisoi waged a fight, while Laxman Nayak spread consciousness in Gandhian ways. In Andhra Pradesh, Manyam Veerudu, the hero of the forests, Alluri Siraram Ramu blew the trumpet of the Rampa movement. Pasalthakhungchera fought the British in the hills of Mizoram. There were many freedom fighters from Assam and North-East like Gomadhar Konwar, Lasith Borfukan, and Serat Sing who contributed to the independence of the country. Whether it is the sacrifice of Nayak tribals in Jambughoda in Gujarat or the massacre of hundreds of tribals in Mangadh, the country will always remember their sacrifice, the Prime Minister stated.

The Prime Minister said that the work of continuously awakening this flame of the freedom movement was done by our saints, Mahants, Acharyas in every area, East-West-North-South. The Bhakti movement had paved the way for the nationwide freedom movement. Who can forget the freedom struggle of 1857, the return of Mahatma Gandhi from abroad, reminding the country of the power of Satyagraha, the call for complete independence of Lokmanya Tilak, the Delhi march of the Azad Hind Fauj led by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the slogan of Dilli Chalo.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that tribals, women, and youth from every corner of the country have played an important role in making India independent through their innumerable struggles. Mahatma Gandhi did the work of picking up a pinch of salt and breaking it with a salt satyagraha in Dandi. Salt is not judged by its value in our country, salt here means honesty, trust, and loyalty, he underlined while saying that we also say that we have eaten the salt of the country. Salt is a symbol of labour and equality. He said that at that time salt was a symbol of India's self-reliance.
