Operation Sindoor - Euphoria over Ceasefire Announcement most shortsighted
Euphoric visual media coverage of the ceasefire announcement is myopic, purblind and wasteful.
Never too late for all alike to learn from lessons of mankind’s military history! Also, none learns from lessons of the past.
Furthermore, let me reiterate the Bismarck’s quote: "Fools learn from their own mistakes; Wise learn from others mistakes”. Expanding the quote “Idiots refuse to learn from their own mistakes”.
The saying goes "armies win battles, but nations lose wars". How apt it is for modern India.
Indian Armed Forces were on the verge of winning the war in J & K by driving Pak sponsored raiders out of J & K in the 1947-1948 War; India lost the War by going to the United Nations.
Next, Indian Armed Forces almost on the verge of delivering a crushing defeat to Pakistan Army; but lost the War by agreeing Soviet Union brokered Tashkent Agreement post-1965 War. Lal Bahadur Shastri's body came back from Tashkent.
Also, Indian Armed Forces scored a scintillating victory over Pakistan Armed Forces in the battles of 1971 War; but lost the War at Shimla by accepting the release of 93,000 prisoners of war without any worthwhile guarantees.
Laymen must understand the difference between tactical success and strategic victory in a conflict. While an army might be victorious in individual engagements, a nation can still lose a war due to broader strategic failures, such as political miscalculations, economic instability, or a lack of public support.
Remember always that a battle is a specific military engagement, while a war is a prolonged conflict with broader political, economic, technology and social dimensions.
Modi and his team of Dr. S Jaishankar, Rajnath Singh, Ajit Doyal, CDS and the three Services COAS must not squander the opportunity by accepting cease fire when Pakistan Armed Forces were on the verge of crushing defeat.
Surely, the Navy should have been given the opportunity to strike and inflict devastation on Karachi and Gwadar Ports infrastructure.
More importantly, the opportunity should have been exploited to strike also at their nuclear infrastructure.
When viewed from a long term strategic perspective, what Pakistan has attempted is “Strategic Withdrawal” to bid time to revert to their old game of 1000-years Jihad.
Let me recall my interaction with Pakistan Prisoners of War in Ranchi post-1971 victory. When I asked them how can they ever think of scoring a victory over the mighty India!
I can never ever forget their reply – we will wage a 1000-year Jihad to reclaim India as Muslim nation.
My earnest plea to Modi and his team of stalwarts is simple. The policy of terror strikes as war does not mean a thing. Terror strikes launched from ISI sponsored jihadist terrorist groups from Bangladesh.
The least that must be ensured is confirmation of abrogation of the past Indus Water Treaty. Hopefully, Modi and his team will take a strong stand in concluding the peace agreement protecting national interests
