Jal Jeevan Mission is giving a fresh boost to the development of the country and the state. The way water has reached the houses in less than the last three years is a great example of public aspirations and public participation, Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh said at a press conference held at the BJP State Office on Monday.
Jal Shakti Minister was presenting the details of the progress of Har Ghar Nal Yojana being operated in the state under Jal Jeevan Mission wherein he informed that the government has made a provision of giving a budget of Rs 3.70 lakh crore in five years so that every house can get water from the taps and no one has to wander for water. In rural areas including inaccessible hills, people should get clean drinking water and the women of the house should get rid of the problem of water completely is the commitment of the BJP government.
The Jal Shakti Minister said that the scheme is also improving the health of women. He added that in order to realize the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, work is being done at a fast pace in UP to improve water management and the lives of millions of families are improving. In the first phase, along with Bundelkhand and Vindhya, work is going on a war footing to provide pure drinking water from door to door in 66 districts of the state.
Swatantra Dev Singh said that continuous work is being done in the field of water under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the state. The Prime Minister believes that it is very important to end the water barrier for the development of the country. Utilizing the water of the country's rivers is one of the top priorities of the government and so is it to ensure that sufficient water reaches the farmers' fields.
Jal Shakti Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had talked about the Har Ghar Nal Yojana of Jal Jeevan Mission from the ramparts of Red Fort on 15th August 2019, after which massive changes have taken place in the field of groundwater management, water conservation, rainwater harvesting. Under the scheme, the resolve of providing water from the tap to every household is being fulfilled, he stated.
In this direction, we are closely monitoring the small and big works of all the schemes, the Jal Shakti Minister while pointing out how even after 70 years of independence, people have to yearn for water. The SP, BSP governments of the Center and the state in the past, instead of working and solving the water problem, spent their time looting, he alleged. Today Modi government at the centre and the Yogi government in the state are committed to ending the water crisis, he said while ruing how women had to fetch water from miles away under the scorching sun.
Mainly the women of Bundelkhand had to face many troubles, he said while adding how since 2014, the focus of the government has been on the empowerment of the poor and downtrodden. Schemes providing housing, gas connection and electricity have brought about a radical change in the life of the poor person.
In 2 years, 49 per cent of households have access to pure water from taps: Jal Shakti Minister
The Jal Shakti Minister said that before Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, only 16 per cent of households in the country had access to tap water, whereas, just two years after the launch of the Jal Jeevan Mission, 49 per cent of households had pure water from the tap. Modi Ji has set a target of providing pure water to every villager by the year 2024, he said. To fulfil this, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is making continuous efforts and so is the Jal Shakti Ministry, the minister further said.
Singh went on to say that the Har Ghar Nal Yojana has changed the lives of lakhs of people. He said that in the first phase, work is going on a war footing to provide pure drinking water through taps from village to village in Bundelkhand and Vindhya region as well as in 66 districts of the state. Pure water supply has been started by giving water connections to a total of 913537 houses under the Ongoing Schemes (New Schemes) across the state. After repairing the old schemes in the state, 1644139 houses have been connected with a water connection afresh (retrofitting scheme).
The Jal Shakti Minister said that more than 13.47 per cent of pure water is being supplied in rural areas of UP. In this, maximum work has been done on a priority basis in rural areas of Bundelkhand and Vindhyas where drinking water was the biggest problem. Drinking water supply reached 28008 houses in Arsenic and JEE affected areas of the state, 112032 people got clean drinking water. Apart from providing pure water supply in rural areas of the state through Har Ghar Nal Yojana, the work of generating employment is being done on a large scale, he stated while adding that posts like plumber and electrician are being created on a contract basis and local people are being linked with employment.
The Jal Shakti Minister said that apart from providing technical training to the polytechnic students of the state under the Har Ghar Nal Yojna, they also get employment. In the coming days, many new employment opportunities will also be launched under the scheme, he said. So far, pure drinking water supply has been started in more than 35, 60, 854 houses in different districts through various schemes across the state. These also include plans for retrofitting and ongoing in rural areas. Along with 7 districts of Bundelkhand, the water supply situation has changed in 02 districts of the Vindhya region which is facing water scarcity. He said that 9 districts of the Bundelkhand and the Vindhya region are getting the biggest benefit from Jal Jeevan Mission's Har Ghar Nal Yojana.
So far 77839 houses (Functional House Hold Tap Connection) have got water connections through the scheme. Due to this 311356 people have started getting direct benefits. He said that water supply has been started up to 102445 houses under the retrofitting scheme by renewing many old schemes of water supply in these 9 districts. Due to this 409780 people are getting direct benefits.
Presenting the district wise progress report of functional household tap connections, the Jal Shakti Minister said that water connections have reached in 1401 houses through 10 schemes of Jal Jeevan Mission in Jhansi, Bundelkhand. In Lalitpur, connections have been given to 8067 houses from 15 schemes. Water connection has reached 5748 families from 5 schemes operated in Jalaun and 9050 houses from 2 schemes of Jal Jeevan Mission in Hamirpur. Water supply to 12648 families has been started through 2 schemes in Banda, 2902 through 2 schemes in Chitrakoot, 11435 through 5 schemes in Mahoba and 26588 families through 9 schemes in Mirzapur. A target of functional household connection has been set up for 321403 families from 13 schemes of Jal Jeevan Mission operated in Sonbhadra.
Similarly, in retrofitting plan, when Jal Jeevan Mission took over the old schemes in the 9 districts of Bundelkhand and Vindhyachal and started them afresh. Under retrofitting, 28 out of 29 schemes in Jalaun have been completed and 9156 houses have been given the benefit of water connection. In Jhansi, 37 out of 40 retrofitting schemes have been started afresh. The benefit of which has started reaching 20969 families through water connections. 3 schemes have started running successfully in Lalitpur and water connections have been received up to 1450 houses here.
In Mahoba, 11966 families are getting the benefit of 43 retrofitting schemes. From 26 retrofitting schemes in Hamirpur to 10554 households, in Chitrakoot, 835 water connections reached houses with one scheme of retrofitting. In Banda, 12391 houses got water connections due to 22 retrofitting. In Mirzapur, Vindhya, 59 out of 62 retrofitting schemes have been completed and water connections have reached 24150 households and 10974 households from 37 retrofitting schemes in Sonbhadra.
Under the Ongoing Plan, the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme has proved to be a boon for the people of Bundelkhand and Vindhya areas which were in the grip of arsenic excess or other waterborne and infectious diseases. In Jalaun, water connections have been made for up to 1189 houses through 2 ongoing schemes. In Jhansi 2750 households have got water connections through 2 schemes, in Lalitpur 5389 families have got water connections through 2 schemes.
The work of providing water to 5062 families in Mahoba is going on fast. Water connections have been provided to 1686 households in Hamirpur through 2 Ongoing Schemes, in Chitrakoot through 3 Ongoing Schemes to 1219 households and in Banda through 2 Ongoing Schemes to 4849 families. Water connections have been provided to 917 households in Mirzapur through one ongoing scheme and in Sonbhadra through 4 ongoing schemes to 10009 households.
